AAUW Maryland Well Represented at the Society for Women Engineers Workshop

AAUW group at SWE event Aspire to Lead, September 2015

Angela Mickalide (VP membership, AAUW-MD), Markonette Richardson (VP programs, AAUW-MD) and Raluca Rosca (President, AAUW-CP) promote AAUW membership

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, three AAUW Maryland members promoted our organization at the Aspire to Lead Workshop sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Baltimore-Washington Section at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland.  More than 100 engineers, many in their early careers, gathered at this professional development workshop to hear Dr. John Michel, professor of management of Loyola University of Maryland, Sellinger School of Business, speak about the latest research trends and tools that transform women’s leadership effectiveness. In addition, four panelists – Dr. Maria Sanchez, Claire McGinnis, Versie Liles and Robyn Schwartzmann – shared their insights regarding opportunities and challenges women confront in their engineering careers.  Participants received AAUW membership, college/university, and scholarship brochures in their tote bags and at their tables.  In addition, the engineers were made aware of the profession-relevant AAUW publication entitled, Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Solving the Equation: The Variables for Women’s  Success in Engineering and Computing.

Big thanks to Angela Mickalide for support and this text and the whole AAUW- MD leadership for co-sponsoring this event!
